Einsiedeln
Einsiedeln is not far away in the neighbouring Schwyz canton. The town lies across the Alptal, and is approximately by 850 meters a.m.s.l.. By car one drives over Bilberbugg. If you prefer you can easily get there by train, with one leaving each half hour of Wädenswil station, and the journey takes only 25 minutes

Einsiedeln monastery
Einsiedeln is world-famous because of the monastery. From the station you go through the beautiful town and after 10 minutes you come to monastery square. The model for this place was Saint Peter's Square in Rome.
The monastery was begun in the year 823. The founder came from Reichnau, to set up a hermitage in this town. He remained only two year before he beame a bishopt. The benedictine monastery was founde in the following century. The original buildings were destroyed by fire in 1509. In 1633 the present monastery was developed bu the Jesuit brother Jakob Kurer, which forms today's baroque style to the monastery. The church is richly decorated, and is overlaid in gold everywhere. Einsiedeln monastery is nowadays best-known for the High School.

Sihlsee (October 5 1999 after first snow)


From Einsiedeln the Sihlsee is not far away. You can go across the fields on a path, and in half an hour reach the village of Birchli.. The view of save at the east edge of the lake is breath-taking.

Zurich

The canton capital is at the northern end of the Zurich lake, where the Limmat river flows out. Zurich with 400.000 inhabitants forms the largest city of Switzerland. It is in the Swiss "Mittland", and canton is the leading industrial area. Here other industrial cities are such as Winterthur.
Zurich is only 20 kilometer from Waedenswil. One can quickly get there by car along the motorway. Whoever prefers, can go by public transport: either by ferry (from April to October) or by train. (a ticket is valid interchangeably).
The Zurich area was settled in prehistorisc times. In the Roman times "Turicum" formed an important bridgehead on the way to South Germany. In the 9th Century the emperor Ludwig had his residence in Zurich. In the Middle Ages Zurich became an important arts center. Nowadays it is because of the banks that Zurich is known in business.

St Peter's church

At the west side of the Limmats is the modern quarter. Here are modern shops and storesstores, best-known of which are Globus and Jelmoli. The shopping area is along the Bahnhofstrasse. Near the Limmat rises the tower of the St. Peter's church, which is the oldest parish church. This church was mentioned for the first time 857. The largest part of the old part of town is to be found at the east side of the river. Here are narrow roads with many typical older Swiss businesses, as well as a whole number of the restaurants, where one eats typical Swiss dishes.


11th century door: Grossmunster

The twin towers of the "Grossmunster" dominate the east bank of the Limmat. This church was built in the 11th Century. Apart the churches there ismuch to be found and seen and visited. One can but mention only the many museums and art collections, as well as to university and the Swiss Federal Tehcnical University.

Mt Pilatus

Lucern is only 30 kilometer distant, and one get there by a short car journey .
Lucern is the largest city of the central Switzerland, is at the end of the Lake Lucern, where the river Reuss flows out in the Vierwaldstattersee. Mountain Pilatus dominates the city. One can reach the 2121 meter height summit by cable car. (The name of the mountain is explained by a tradition that Pontius Pilate flew to Lucern after the death)
In the city much is to be seen. Because of a fire in 1993 the "Kapelbruecke" is known world-wide. The bridge has been restored. The bridge is characterised by its water tower

Along the river are other bridges, one of which is decoarted with mediaval paintings of the "Dance of Death". There is a wide choice of the churches worth of a visit, of them the Jesuit -, the Franciscan and its the yard church. Somewhat different is the "Musegg" wall, from which one can enjoy beautiful views across the city and beyond to the high Alps.
In addition one can stroll along the sea-promenade. From here mountains over 3,000 meters in height come in the view at the eastern end of the promenade, where are the "Vekehrshaus of the Swiss" to visit as well as the Rennaisance city hall.

, not far from east the east end of Zurich lake, one can ascend by aerial cable-car over 500 rises, from where footpaths in the mountains. Here pictorial typical alpine meadows are more wieter, with view to the east over the boiling lake.lead into the mountains
