St Brelade's Church

St Brelades is the oldest parish church on Jersey.
It is situated on rocks overlooking the bay. It is most easily accessed from the road, with car-parking facilities. It can aslo be reached from the beach along the 'perquage'- a sanctuary path from church to beach which is a feature of Jersey's churhces
Built in local granite, it dates from the 12th century, and retains the original norman chancel. The church has a characteristic appearnce due to the vaulted roof being faced with a mix of sanstone and pebbles from the beach.
Saint Brelade is credited with  founding many Christian communities in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany
